7th Annual 2008 Screen Door Art Show 60's "Picket Fence" Revisted
The Picket Fence Art Show sponsored by the Richfield Historical Society was a huge success! Local artists displayed their works inside and out of the old Danish Smorgasbord, now the Farnam Manor Museum. The historical gem was brought to life as many attended the event this past Saturday and Sunday. The Picket Fence Art Show began in the mid '50's when Mrs. Kirk, who owned the Danish Smorgasbord with her husband, held the first outdoor art show in the area. Snow fence returned to the grounds of the old Danish Smorgasbord to display the work of local and visiting artists. This year the show gave tribute to past participants. Mark Moon participated in the show during the 60's. His works have appeared in Sunday Magazine. Mark passed away recently, but his work was on display in his honor. Kitte Lyons, the daughter of the Kirk's, was on hand to greet former art students that stopped by the show. Kitte gave art lessons for many years in the Carriage House next to the Danish Smorgasbord. She has organized the event for many years, lending her expertise to make the event a sure success. Her three sons and daughter in law attended the show,too. The Lyon's brothers shared pleasant memories of their childhood when their grandparents ran the restuarant here. Miss Carrie and Ms. Becky visited and offered rides in the Village cart. Miss Carrie is a beautiful chestnut Haflinger pulling a Village Cart. The Village Carts were used for short trips to the market.
